AstroEd by Muneeb was invited at Hajvery Cadet School in the city of gardens – Lahore to celebrate International Observe The Moon Night 2021. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), #ObserveTheMoon Night is an annual event that provides opportunities to learn about lunar science and exploration, observe celestial bodies and honor personal and cultural connections to the moon. This year, this night was celebrated on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
Founder of AstroEd and a National Award-Winning Science Journalist, Mr. Syed Muneeb Ali went with his Celestron PowerSeeker 127EQ reflector telescope to show the closeups of the lunar features. The Audience consisted of 30 to 50 people that includes the students of the school along with the outsiders who registered for this public event. As the event was open for all age groups, so we had 10 to 40 years old ‘kids’ 😉
After 2 hours of lunar observation and a brief question/answer session about the craters and frozen lava on the Moon, we slew the telescope towards the mighty gas giant – planet Jupiter. Kids were amazed to see the planet along with its moons for the very first time through the telescope.
When we started observing Jupiter, Callisto and Ganymede were on the left, while Io was behind the planet and Europa was close to the planet on the right. After an hour of observation, Io popped up from the left while Europa was gone behind the planet! Kids were shocked to view the site of Moons of Jupiter orbiting LIVE!
